A lot of us live in a false impression that we know everything. We fail to realise that not everything is taught to us in school. There are things we are forced to learn after we face certain situations. It is important to learn such things early on in life. For example, it may be changing a tire, building a shelf, catching a fish, or even basic first aid. We never know when we might need to use these skills. Life is unpredictable and we need to be prepared for the worst. Having a skillset of useful things can help out many people in the worse of situations.
Knowing and having skills is what makes you unique and makes you stand out from the crowd. Knowledge is the biggest possession a man can have. It is the only thing that can never be taken from you. People treat you with greater respect. There are countless number of skills a man can learn. There are no boundaries. Learning skills help you in pursuing opportunities in life.
1) Basic First Aid
Although this is not a skill that you will require every day, but it can be of certain importance if you do not know how to clean and dress a wound. But this does not mean you are a doctor, so know your limits. Only use basic first aid while an ambulance or actual help is on the way. This is an important survival skill to have.
2) Changing a tire
Everyone on earth who drives a car, has ended up at least once with a flat tire. It is inevitable. This is why a lot of motor vehicle companies provide a spare tire in the trunk of the car. But if you do not know how to change a tire, the spare tire in your trunk will be of no use. You will either have to seek help or walk the rest of the way.
3) Basic Carpentry
Not only is carpentry one of the oldest skills of humanity, it is also one of the reasons why civilization exists. By learning carpentry skills, it does not mean that you need to learn to build a whose house from the ground up. Learning carpentry skills suggests general practices such as knowing how to saw wood, use power tools, nail and screw furniture together. Learn to build something as useful and simple as a shelf.
4) Know how to buy a suit
You must be deluded if you think that buying a suit is as simple as buying any other item of clothing. There are a lot of things that go into purchasing a suit. The occasion, the style, the fit. You should be able to differ between a rip-off and a good deal. The most recommended thing when buying a suit is to get yourself sized by a trusted tailor. Once you do that, you can go to any formal event or party with style.
5) Dance
This may not seem like a necessary skill which you must learn, it can be an important factor in a formal event. Dance is more prominent in our society as we might think. It is always nice to dance with a partner at a wedding or party. Don’t just bob your head like you always do.
6) Fix leakages
A leak in your pipes can be very annoying. Whether it be your kitchen or bathroom sink. They can cause damage to your residence. Save some money by learning how to fix any leakages yourself. Doing so, you will free yourself from any frustration of calling a plumber.
7) Catch fish
Catching fish is one of the most crucial and useful skills you can learn. Whether you are on a river or stuck in the middle of the sea, fish will keep your protein in check. It is also an impressive skill to show off. Learning how to catch fish will enable you to go on peaceful fishing trips with your loved ones. Most importantly, it is free food.
8) Build a campfire
The skill of building a campfire is important when you enjoy camping with friends and family. It will be a lifesaver if you unfortunately ever get lost in the woods. Remember that it is not easy to build a campfire and many factors go into it. Oxygen, type of wood, etc. You cannot just simply light a stack of wood on fire. The campfire needs room to breathe. To get the most out of it, learn how to build it.
9) Taking good photographs
Taking photographs is not as easy as just pointing the camera and clicking a button. A lot more goes into consideration. You will have to take in mind the position of the subject, the background, the opacity, the depth of field, lighting, etc. Even if the photograph is something as basic as a family photograph, for it to be worthy enough to be hung on the wall, it has to be well taken.
10) Fighting
As we have always seen in movies and TV shows, a man always knows how to fight. He knows how to defend himself and others. For us men, it is key to stand up for ourselves. No matter how nice or kind we are to people, some just do not want to see you happy and cause problems. Although, it is important to remember to not use your physical strength for the wrong cause. Fighting is an important skill that makes you a manly man.
Men around the world keep their heads high and walk. Remember that forcing yourself to become more of a man is not important, being happy is. At the end of the day, being a man is all about being confident in your own skin. Being a man is how you carry yourself and treat others. Respect everyone around you and they too will respect you as a man.
Grow and learn more new skills with each passing day. Every day you will learn something new that will help you later on in life. Make time in your day to learn a new hobby.
